“GREAT GLEN WAY EXPEDITION”

Throughout your 5 days on expedition with us your guide will give advice and top tips to allow you to relax and enjoy this wonderful experience.  You get the chance to travel at the perfect pace to explore and soak up the beauty of Scotland from the water.

Each night you will camp together at the side of the loch. After dinner each night there will be time to chat through the days paddling and look ahead to what the following days will bring.

GREEN COURSE

A great beginners trip for individuals wanting to experience travelling by canoe and camping under the stars for the first time.

Day 1 - Corpach Locks to Gairlochy

After meeting your guides in Inverness we transfer to the west coast to start our trip on the amazing series of canal locks called Neptune’s staircase. Paddling east we have a gentle introduction to canoeing using the Caledonian Canal to reach Gairlochy and our first nights camp.

Day 2 - Loch Lochy to Laggan locks 

Today we experience the open water of Loch Lochy and a very beautiful, calm, tree-lined section of the canal which leads onto Loch Oich. A wild camp under the stars awaits to fully embrace the expedition life.

Day 3 - Laggan Locks to Fort Augustus

After paddling on the sheltered canal we arrive at our longest portage on the journey, around the lochs in Fort Augustus. Here we are gifted with our first views of Loch Ness and our camp will let us soak up the atmosphere of this most amazing place.

Day 4 - Loch Ness

Today we continue paddling on the mighty Loch Ness, stopping at one of the lovely sandy beaches to rest and eat. After immersing ourselves in this fantastic place we will transfer back to Inverness where we will end our trip.

Day 5 - Loch Ness and Home

Your last day of expedition completes your journey across Scotland. You'll paddle down the remaining stretches of Loch Ness before shuttling back to Inverness.

Beyond Adventure will provide all necessary group equipment including waterproof barrels, camp seats, tents, cooking utensils, maps, group shelters as well as all necessary personal paddling equipment.

Personal Equipment 

3 season sleeping bag

Lightweight sleeping mat or thermarest

Waterproof jacket and trousers

Fleece jacket x2

Warm hat

Sun hat ideally with a peak or brim

Quick drying lightweight trousers x 2

Base layers - thermal tops and bottoms

Tee shirts x2 (thermal fabric - not cotton)

Gloves, wool is still warm when wet

Paddling footwear (could be wellies, trainers or old boots, but make sure comfortable when kneeling)

Camp footwear - sandals, trainers or lightweight boots

1 litre water bottle (minimum)

Sun glasses and sunscreen

Personal first aid including blister kit and insect repellant

Midge net & midge repellant (Scotland in summer)

Light weight wash kit (with biodegradable soap)

A few plastic carrier bags (to separate wet/dry clothes if necessary)

Lightweight towel

Headtorch plus spare battery

Camera

Personal Medication 

You will be able to leave extra clothes worn for travelling in the vehicle whilst we are on expedition.
